From the academic year 2015-16, the Department of Engineering has activated a new integrated study course with the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) in Beijing. The course offers students the opportunity to achieve a double degree in Fashion Design of which one will be valid in Italy and the other in the country of the partner university. More precisely, the course has a two-year duration with a period of mobility abroad (1 and a half years). Therefore, students will enrich their curriculum and present themselves in the world of work with a more complete and international training profile.
The Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) in Beijing is among the most important universities in China on fashion, specializing in applied technology, its training combines art, technology, economics, management and other disciplines that can successfully interact. Founded in 1959, the institute is affiliated to the Ministry of Textiles. In recent years, the institute's motto has been "innovation paves the way for realistic and creative training applications", a visionary philosophy that combines artistic and scientific education, integrates ethnic fashion culture with the philosophy of contemporary design.
There are approximately 7000 students and 700 academic staff members, BIFT now has nine academic schools for full time undergraduate education (School of Fashion & Engineering, School of Fashion Accessory Art & Engineering, School of Material Science & Engineering, School of Art & Design, School of Fashion Communication, School of Business, School of Information Engineering, School of Languages & Cultures, and School of Fine Arts); two departments (Languages and Plastic Arts); two teaching divisions (Social Sciences and Basic Sciences); a Centre for Computer Science Teaching; a Graduate School, a School of International Education and a School of Extended Education. There are also 20 specialisation courses among which: Textile sciences and engineering; Materials for Fashion R & D and Evaluation Laboratory; fashion culture and industrial research; Clothing Technology transfer; Costume Museum, one of the ten most specialized museums in China.
